If that stopped the noise then you have a bearing that is on it’s way out. I would get both bearing and bushing and replace in the off season. Until then I would listen for any noise starting again. Did you look at the armature for any scraping? That is a sign of highly worn bearing/ bushing.

I looked it up in the Victory manual and it does not mention anything about removing the clutch in the disassembly of the shift mechanism including the star.

In short I can’t say for sure. That said I can’t phantom that it would be under the clutch as I have never heard of anyone who changed it complain that they had to remove the clutch.

If yo are referring to wheel bearings get the wheels off the ground and spin them. they should be perfectly quiet. Grab the tire top and bottom pull with one hand while pushing with the other checking for any play. The smallest amount if any and the bearing is no good. The rear wheel you should remove the belt to spin the wheel. A little more involved.
