Re-cored mufflers. For many years I’d been using the Adam Bomb re-cored muffler mod as a good way to increase sound and power on the Cross and Vision models. Re-core-ing is just taking the stock guts out of the stock mufflers and replacing them with an aftermarket baffle with more sound and flow. And Adam Bombs were one of the handful of re-cores on the market for many years. Unfortunately the number of people doing this re-core work has dwindled in recent years, and recently even the Adam Bomb maker had to call it quits. So that got me on the hunt for a suitable replacement. You wouldn’t think it, but the baffles in the picture are quite hard to find with the right specs, quantity, and price needed to make this project work. But a shipment finally arrived at my machine shop recently, which got me stacking up and delivering to them a pallet of mufflers ready to be modified! I’ll have the rest of the details when the project is complete!

Rylan, about 10 years ago you taught me the Tri Ovals have a beautiful “table top” flat torque curve. This was as you were installing Lloyds DR cams and a PCV on my CCT. It’s great to see you’re now reworking OEM mufflers for better sound and performance. My question is: have you ever done or looked into doing something similar to the Tri Ovals mufflers?

I have thought about it, but never got around to it.

Many years ago KevixX (Cross) posted that cutting off the Tri Oval baffle, leaving a 3″ stub on the end Y connector made them sound great. Though I never saw a before and after dyno graph and wouldn’t know if the Tri Ovals would then lose one of the best attributes; the “Table Top Flat” torque curve.

I found a nos set of all black Tri Ovals I installed on my Hard-Ball, along with a Maximus remote tune. Then I found another nos all chrome set of Tri Ovals I’ll likely put on my CCT. My CCT went from the original all chrome Tri Ovals, to a set of Raging Cajun Medium Low & Throaty. Then to a set of Raging Cajun Adjustable DDT’s. And now, I’ll likely go back to another all chrome set of Tri Ovals.

Does my PCV tune need to be adjusted going from the Raging Cajun mufflers back to Tri Ovals? I did have it adjusted when I went from the Tri Ovals to the Raging Cajuns. Though I don’t know how much of an adjustment was done to the PCV tune.

Would I need another re-tune on the PCV going back to Tri Ovals? In addition to t Raging Cajun mufflers, the other items on the CCT are Lloyds DR cams, Lloyds timing wheel and a Lloyds air filter.

Yes, when switching exhausts you would be wise to re-tune the bike so that it runs to the best of it’s ability.
