Wire harness and ecm swap
Posted by Greg on February 22, 2023 at 4:17 pmWas wondering what all was involved with switching out the old wire harness and ecu on a 99 to a 02-06 touring harness and ECU? Thanks!

It’s a direct swap except for the custom wiring for the fuel pump. You’ll clip off the 02-06 wire end, cap off the lever sensor wiring (it cannot be reused) but do lengthen and install the pump power and ground to the 99-01 bike’s fuel pump. That is it!

So I have the plugs out and grounded to the engine. I hit the starter button and no spark. But the instant I take my thumb off the starter button I get what looks like one single really bright spark from both plugs.
Battery good. Ignition coil seems in spec. Prim is at 6ohm (my leads are 1ohm) spec says 5ohm. Secondary is 10.15ohm spec says 10.25ohm.
Crank position 1400ohm spec is 1500ohm then next crank test is 0 then starter button 3-5VAC spec is 3VAC or fluctuating VAC.
What in the world am I missing? Hahah thanks all!

Sorry, I forgot to mention you’ll need to swap out the crank trigger wheel as well.
The 02-06 harness will require a 02-06 crank trigger wheel.
The harness and trigger wheel are a matching set.
I can sell you one if you can’t find one on ebay.

I know it’s been awhile. I can’t seem to get her to idle. She will fire up and take a throttle but won’t idle.
I have cleaned the throttle body best I know and also made sure no air leaks.
Any ideas would be helpful thanks again!

This is where testing the air/fuel mixture is handy. I don’t suppose you have that tool, do you?

Not 100% sure what tool you are referring to but I’m definitely interested.
