  • Starter Issues – 2013 Victory Boardwalk

Posted by David on December 16, 2025 at 4:03 pm

    Hi there,

I have a question for you. I noticed my starter was going out last year on my 2013 Victory Boardwalk, so I replaced it with a new one from VictoryOnly.com. I put that starter in and now I’m starting to notice the same issues after a riding season. When I press the start button, sometimes the display goes dark and it almost sounds like it either doesn’t have enough power, or it just is stuck. If I hold the button down longer sometimes it will continue to start, other times it won’t for a few tries. It’s almost as if it is having a hard time starting. I have replaced the battery within the past two years, so I am confused as to why it is doing this. Anyone have any ideas on it? The starter worked great and I had no issues and it was only towards my last two rides of the season that I started to notice the same issues.

    Thanks!

    First question:

Did you buy the high quality OEM starter that is $400ish

Or did you buy the cheap aftermarket knock-off (typically costs $80-120)?

I have noticed that the cheap copies draw WAY more amps than the high quality OEM version making it seem as if your battery can’t keep up, when in fact it’s just the cheap starter.

    Hi Rylan,

Thanks for the response. That would make a lot of sense. The one I bought was through VictoryOnly and was about $240 dollars. Here’s a link to it:

Do you have a good source for a quality one you’d be willing to share? Appreciate your response!
