  • Garmin GPS not working and I can’t remove it from the bike

I will keep this simple. The Garmin on my new used 10th anniversary bike is not powering on. Someone suggested checking to see if it has an internal battery that needs replaced so I thought I would start by removing it from its holder. Well that was nothing but a frustration. I looked in the service manual but there is not a thing on the GPS. It says there is under 19.29 but there is not. This is just ridiculous. Absolutely nothing on trouble shooting and nothing on how to remove it. I looked for some link on a forum but so far nothing. I am stumped. I removed the obvious torx screw out of the top but that did not get me anywhere. What is the secret.

The torx screw locks down a tabbed slide. Once it is completely loosened, pull up on the slide and it should pop up about a 1/4”. One it pops up, the Garmin will tilt forward and come out.

These old “brick” style were notorious for the screens going dark and appearing not to work. I sent mine back to Garmin twice to have them replace the screen. Last time, they said they won’t repair anymore, so I went with a newer style. Even it’s outdated now and I just use my phone.

I never like hearing that I cannot fix something. I guess it is time to buy another GPS.

I got it off. Now what can I do with it. Is there any internal battery that could be bad. I really would love to get it working. That brings up the question of will a new Garman interface with the bike like this one did. The plug looks a bit dry rotted but it looks like it was making good contact.
