Fixing a XC fuel pump with labor only
This Cross Country fuel pump would engage intermittently causing the bike to run poorly (if you could even get it to start). Since step #1 in my book is always a visual inspection, it immediately turned up the corroded main connector to the fuel tank. It doesn’t look so bad right off the bat….until you touch the connection and feel that it’s hot to the touch from the electrical resistance! The harness ends were unpinned and cleaned up and the problem went away. A lesser diagnostician may have ordered a fuel pump needlessly and started down a terrible road of misdiagnosis, frustration, and money wasted. I can’t stress the importance of a good visual inspection! This repair was “labor only”.
