Clutch apart but don't really see why it's slipping.

I took my clutch apart because I have slipping thinking the plates were worn but I feel like nothing is wrong with the pads. I did find some marks on the basket where the press plate engages the fingers on the basket. I’ve never seen one of these apart so I’m curious if anyone here has seen this

I forgot to say that when I pulled the stack out, I think the spacer and the de-judder spring were backwards. What would that do?

I’m not sure what you mean by “excessive freeplay” and this might all boil down to what you mean by that.
Yes, those pads look fine, but let’s not get lost in the details. Actually to avoid several weeks of back-and-forth posting, you could call me and give me the history of the bike, and a detailed description of the issue before the bike was taken apart. This will tell me a lot. 515-339-4313

What I meant by excessive or “adequate” freeplay was for the clutch cable.
I dug deeper into the plates and found some had a more polished look to it and probably the slipping I was having sometimes and redline shifting. Then once it slipped it would continue until the next cool down period.
When I took it apart I was to say that my spacer and de-judder plate were installed out of order but I’m not 100% on that because I didn’t pay enough attention to it when I pulled it out.
Today I installed the Energy One clutch pack I mentioned to you last we spoke along with the Indian pinion I got from you. It doesn’t seems to have slightly more slip in the throw out bearing than the stock pinion. I was going to install the Rivera Primo Spring but it is slightly smaller than the stock so I’ll need to get a Barnett Pressure Plate to use it. It would be nice if they sold it separate from their spring. I just want to get a bit more pressure without spending the dough on the Variable setup. A few others on TheVog mentioned they are using the clutch pack with good luck so I’m hoping for the same.

2016 XC with Lloyds filter, Tri-Ovals with Right Hand Cat removed, Andrews 413 cams and Maximus tuned by me.
35,000 miles and this is the original clutch. I didn’t have any slipping until my first 6,000 to 8,000 miles with the Cams.
Always used vic oil until a couple years ago I switch to Spectro Semi. I went back to Victory oil after the slipping started but it didn’t resolve it.

I see what you mean by the freeplay now. Usually when the clutch is going out the freeplay gets tighter, not looser. So I don’t think that’s anything to worry about.
Keep those clutch plates around. They look like they could be cleaned up and saved. Nice to have a spare set. Let me know what you think of the Energy One clutch. That Primo spring looks like it’ll take a strong arm to engage.

Thanks for the reply Rylan. How would you clean up those plates and fibers? I assumed I’d need to use a scotch pad or wire bristle tool on a drill to kinda give it a cross hatch?
The Energy One clutch feels great so far. I did another 50 miles today commuting to work.
The Rivera Primo spring I bought is the Silver version which I read is not as strong as the Gold Spring. They call it their “Street Spring” and good for 130ft/lbs. In my opinion the factory spring is super easy so I’m not concerned with potentially having a bit more pull. I’ll probably leave it alone for now and see what this longevity does with the new clutch pack. Worst case it starts slipping again in 5,000 miles, I’ll then buy a Barnett PP and try that spring out with another Energy One setup. I paid just under 200 bucks for that clutch pack….. Time will tell and I’m hopeful.

Scotch pad and cleaning solvent is all it’ll take. Don’t go to town with a power tool.
